The origin
Caribbean bold.
Brooklyn built.
Aunts et Uncles is a vegan Caribbean cafe rooted in Flatbush, Brooklyn since 2013. What started as a community gathering place became something larger — a celebration of Caribbean culture, heritage, and the kind of food that carries memory in every bite.
We have served over 100,000 customers from our corner of Brooklyn. Every product we make carries that history forward.
The matriarch
Meet Aunty Elo.
At 77, she still pours love into every bottle.
The matriarch is the flower of the family tree. She carries the roots of heritage, secrets, and history.
Aunty Elo is the only living family member who holds the recipe for Ma Nicholas's Peppa Sauce. This recipe was passed down through the rare and sacred bond between mother and daughter-in-law in La Clery, St. Lucia. As matriarchs of their families, and mothers to a collective of fifteen children, Elo and Ma spent weekend nights cooking and selling food in the community. They sourced produce from their village in Balca, from gardens, and from local markets.
Fridays were Ma's day to sell with Elo by her side. Saturdays were Elo's turn with Ma's support. Together, their love language of food became empowerment — feeding families, sparking conversations, and nourishing community.
The Peppa Sauce was their secret weapon — ground to perfection, the cherry on top of any weekend dish. For Elo, it became a true gift from Ma: a treasure and a revenue stream that could always make a way.
Today, at 77 years old, Elo still pours love into every bottle. It is now her sole source of income, sustaining her life and home while carrying forward a legacy of resilience and joy. This sauce is not just flavor. It is heritage, survival, and love — from Elo's hands to your plate.
